THE SHORT VERSION
Quick answer
Leaving a VIP programme is an instruction, not a negotiation. Send one written request through the account naming exactly what should stop — tier participation, host contact, personalised offers and each marketing channel — and ask for written confirmation with a date. A retention offer will probably arrive in reply; a request to leave does not oblige you to consider it.
Decide what you are actually ending
Three different things get confused here: the tier itself, contact from a host, and marketing from the operator. They are usually controlled separately, so a vague request tends to stop the least important one.
Decide which of the three you want ended, and whether the account should remain open at all. An exit from the programme leaves the account live, with deposits still possible; that is the right outcome for some readers and the wrong one for others.
Write one instruction, not a conversation
Use the account’s own message system or the published support address, not the host’s personal channel. A single message with a clear list is harder to answer partially and easier to reference later.
State the instruction, not the reasons. Explanations invite a counter-offer; a plain request with a confirmation deadline does not.
| What to end | Wording to use | Confirmation to request |
|---|---|---|
| Tier participation | Remove my account from the VIP programme | Written confirmation that the account is no longer enrolled |
| Host contact | Stop all contact from my account manager | Confirmation that the host assignment is removed |
| Personalised offers | Stop individually targeted promotions | Confirmation that targeted offers are switched off |
| Marketing channels | Unsubscribe email, SMS, phone and push | Confirmation per channel, with an effective date |
| Data under promotion | Stop profiling for marketing purposes | A reply citing the privacy policy clause relied on |
Retention language and how to answer it
Expect a reply that reframes the request as a problem to be solved: a better offer, a pause instead of an exit, a call to discuss it, a question about what went wrong. None of that is misconduct; it is the function of the role.
Answer once, in the same thread, repeating the original instruction without new reasons. If a call is proposed, decline and ask for the written confirmation. Declining a conversation is always available to you.
Watch the timing of any sweetener. An offer that lands immediately after an exit request is aimed at the request, not at your situation, and it should be read with the same arithmetic as any other promotion.
What an opt-out does not cover
Leaving a programme does not close the account, remove a saved payment method, cancel outstanding wagering on an active bonus or stop you from logging in. Those are separate actions in separate parts of the account.
Nor does it reach other operators. Marketing from affiliates and other brands in the same group can continue, and unsubscribing from one sender does not cover the rest.
Check for anything still attached before you walk away: an open bonus with wagering outstanding, a pending withdrawal, points that expire on exit. Resolve those first so the exit does not become a dispute.
When closure or self-exclusion is the better step
Where the programme was shaping how much you deposited or how long you played, an opt-out leaves the machinery intact. Account closure removes the login; self-exclusion adds a barrier that you cannot quietly reverse on a bad evening.
BetStop, the National Self-Exclusion Register, covers licensed Australian online and phone wagering providers. Device blockers, bank gambling blocks and operator-level exclusions add friction beyond that coverage, and layering them is more effective than any single tool.
Free and confidential support is available through Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858, including for family members. Contacting it early is normal, not a last resort.
Keep a record after the exit
Save the request, the confirmation and the date in one place. If contact resumes, that record turns a disagreement into a simple reference to an instruction already acknowledged.
Should contact continue after confirmation, send one short follow-up quoting the original message, then use the operator’s formal complaint process. Keep the account’s own written trail rather than screenshots of personal chat.
Review the account a month later. Marketing preferences are sometimes reset by a new sign-in, a changed email or a reactivated promotion, and a short check is cheaper than a second exit.
DECISION POINTS
What matters here
Send one written instruction inside the account.
Name every channel that must stop, not just the host.
Ask for written confirmation and an effective date.
Decide separately whether the account should close.
PRACTICAL CHECK
How to check it properly
- Open the promotion-specific terms before opting in.
- Write down wagering, contribution, max bet, expiry and conversion caps.
- Calculate required turnover at your normal stake.
- Decline the offer if it changes your planned spend or pace.
Use the result to make a decision before a balance, promotion or time pressure is involved. If current terms, account information and support answers do not match, pause and resolve the conflict first.

Risk note
If the reason for leaving is loss of control, an opt-out is not enough on its own. Use self-exclusion and counselling support as well.
CLEAR ANSWERS
Common questions
Does leaving a VIP programme close my account?
No. The two are separate requests. If you want the account closed, say so explicitly and ask for written confirmation of the closure.
Can I stop host contact but keep playing?
Usually yes. Ask for the host assignment to be removed and for targeted offers to be switched off, and keep the confirmation.
What if a host keeps calling after I opted out?
Send one follow-up quoting your original instruction and the confirmation, then use the operator’s formal complaint process if contact continues.
Will I lose points or benefits by leaving?
Programme terms often forfeit accrued benefits on exit. Check the written rules first and resolve any open bonus or pending withdrawal before you send the request.
Is an opt-out the same as self-exclusion?
No. An opt-out stops programme participation and contact. Self-exclusion through BetStop blocks access to licensed Australian online and phone wagering providers for a set period.
Should I explain why I am leaving?
You do not need to. Reasons tend to produce counter-offers; a plain instruction with a confirmation request is faster.
